Your Bio

Welcome to my world of photography. I am truly glad you came to visit. If you have any comments or suggestions please let me know.

The most important thing about photography is what the eye sees. I like to think of myself as an explorer of light. Every picture that is taken is all about the right light. There are many different types of light; my specialty is using natural light that makes my subject look magical in everyday surroundings.

My goal as a photographer is not to be famous, but to find the right light to make you and your family or my subjects look famously!!

Types of photography

Individual and Family Portraiture

First and foremost I specialize in using natural light in everyday surroundings. Sessions should be un-staged and natural. Come dressed in your favorite colors and lets go play! (I can give you some recommendations on what to wear and what not to wear.) (a link here to contact/pricing) One of my favorite shoots was with family of four who brought their picnic and enjoyed the day. You will have my undivided attention for one to two hours. Let’s make the time we spend fun and I know we can capture some magic. Contact me for pricing.

Places and Nature’s Beauty

I enjoy traveling throughout our beautiful country. I specialize in “America Through My Eyes.” There are so many gorgeous places in America; it would take many lifetimes to experience all of them. I have traveled in almost every state and will continue to hunt for those magic moments.

Impressions

Everyday subjects romanticized through my eyes. Sometimes the sublime turns out to be the best picture. We all want that picture of the Grand Canyon but what else do you see? Is there angle that hasn’t been thought of?

About me

Having spent most of my life in Hawaii, I gained an appreciation for the natural beauty and amazing light of the Hawaiian Islands. It was this beauty of this natural world that inspired me to borrow my father’s 35mm SLR camera. My first formal training in photography was at my Big Island High School; I took a photography class taught by former Honolulu Star-Bulletin chief photographer Warren Roll (Who also happened to be my best friend’s Dad!). Photography has also been in my family, my Grandfather Tweedie was also an avid photographer and I can recall spending time in his darkroom developing black and white photographs, I can still smell the chemicals! Thank goodness for Digital.

While attending the University of Hawaii my skills were further honed as the school newspaper photographer. Since those beginning days my foray into professional photography has been methodical till one day I decided that I don’t do photography, I am a photographer.

Koko Crater Hike Oahu Hawaii : Koko Crater is an awesome hike straight up an old railroad that served the military installations at the top. The stairs gradually increase in steepness and the whole climb will take you over 1100 feet more or less straight up. I have done quite a few hikes in my day and this one is not technically difficult nor is it a lengthy climb but the steepness and heat are factors. The view at the top makes it worthwhile!!! Who needs a gym when you could do this each day!!

Bandelier National Monument : This was my first time to Bandelier National Monument. It is a really cool place. The climate is fantastic even in the middle of summer. The cave dwellings are very interesting. The campground smells like pinion! I would highly recommend visiting this park!

Bandelier's human history extends back for over 10,000 years when nomadic hunter-gatherers followed migrating wildlife across the mesas and canyons. By 1150 CE Ancestral Pueblo people began to build more permanent settlements. Reminders of these past times are still evident in the park as are the strong ties of the modern Pueblo people. By 1550 the Ancestral Pueblo people had moved from their homes here to pueblos along the Rio Grande (Cochiti, San Felipe, San Ildefonso, Santa Clara, Santo Domingo).

In the mid-1700's Spanish settlers with Spanish land grants made their homes in Frijoles Canyon. In 1880 Jose Montoya of Cochiti Pueblo brought Adolph F. A. Bandelier to Frijoles Canyon. Montoya offered to show Bandelier his people's ancestral homelands.

In 1916 legislation to create Bandelier National Monument was signed by President Woodrow Wilson. In 1925 Evelyn Frey and her husband, George, arrived to take over the Ranch of the 10 Elders that had been built by Judge Abbott in 1907. Between 1934 and 1941 workers from the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) worked from a camp constructed in Frijoles Canyon. Among their accomplishments is the road into Frijoles Canyon, the current visitor center, a new lodge, and miles of trails. For several years during World War II the park was closed to the public and the Bandelier lodge was used to house Manhattan Project scientists and military personnel.

Big Bend National Park 2009 : This was my first trip to Big Bend National Park. I have always wanted to go but felt daunted by its size and distance from where I live as the park is "out of the way" from most of my travels. I decided to pack up my 4Runner with a ton of gear and just explore. With a few ideas and advice for my travels I basically went without an itinerary. Once I arrived at the park and talked with the Park Rangers I came up with a basic plan. Day 1 Chisos, Day 2 Castalon and Day 3 at Ernst Tinaja.

I hope you enjoy the pictures. My overall impression of the park is that it is a Magic Garden. I have never been to place with so much interesting plant and animal life in what I thought would be a desolate desert park.

May 2009 Flooding : UPDATE- May 14th. Highport's new restaurant called the Island is literally an island! It had to be shut down due to the rising waters. Water as of yesterday was less than a foot away from going over our walkway at the our dock. All roads at Highport that give access to the slips are closed.

From April 29th till today May 6th 2009 we had over 10 inches of rain. Lake Texoma went from 615.5 to 624.5 for a total of 9 feet in 7 days. It may rise more as we got more rain at around 4:30 this morning. ( I love it when the NOAA radio blares and wakes you up) To match 2007 the lake would need to rise another 15 feet.

As you can tell from my dock, if we received another 4 or 5 feet the platform from the stairs to the walkway would be under water. That would be a bummer!! Also the water went from incredibly clear to looking like hot chocolate!
